 Traditional Book Giving Day in the Agrarian University


On February 19, Hovhannes Tumanyan’s birthday, Armenia celebrates Book-Giving Day. Hovhannes Tumayan, writer, poet, literary, national and public figure, was born on February 19, 1869 in the village of Dsegh, Lori province.  Today is the 151st anniversary of the All-Armenian Poet. Every book, especially the good one, makes our world brighter, and Tumanyan with his brilliant works is the proof of that.

The Scientific library of Armenian National Agrarian University led by the head Mrs. Hasmik Adamyan organized a traditional event. Vardan Urutyan, ANAU Rector, Hrachyan Tspnetsyan, vice-rector for science, lecturers and students were guests of the event. In her opening speech Mrs. Hasmik Adamyan cited many quotes about the need of reading, she also urged the students to value their time and to use it effectively.

ANAU Rector congratulated on the occasion and tanked Hasmik Adamyan for her words of advice which are important for improving the life quality. Mr. Urutyan set a good example  for others and said that in their family they organize readings of the works of Tumanyan with his children. Rector Vardan Urutyan, vice-rector Tspnetsyan, professor Oleg Kamalyan, newly appointed chair of Social sciences gifted books to the Library. The Scientific Library provided a large number of literature to students and lecturers in need.

The students of Agricultural collage after Anton Kochinyan staged surprise performance led by Emma Mkheyan, lecturer at the chair of Armenian and foreign languages and Mariam Hovhannisyan, a librarian. The performance was about Armenian language, the creation of Armenian writings and their eternal importance.
