Vardaton was first celebrated in Tbilisi in 1914 at the initiative of Hovhannes Tumanyan and landscape painter Gevorg Bashinjaghyan and from 2005 celabrated in Yerevan.

On May 21, the "Vardaton" was celebrated at ANAU.The event was organized by the Chair of Armenian and Russian languages and ANAU library.The library was full of roses that day. The lecturers of Chair of Armenian and Russian languages Araqsya Hakobyan and Gohar Mashuryan with the 1st year students presented presented a minstrel-poet's works. Were sounded the minstrel-poet's songs, were presented immortal works performed on the basis of his songs and dances .
